Want to view yourself or your business in a new fresh, quirky way..?

... There's a new way to do this! There’s a fabulous trend doing the rounds at the moment, and I thought I’d share in case you haven’t come across it yet. I’ve only seen it in pet business circles so far, but it will work for anyone.

If you’re a pet business, go to ChatGPT (or similar AI) and describe your business in a couple of lines if it’s not familiar with it. Then type:

“based on what you know about my business, please be my drunk best friend, and describe my business”.

If you aren’t a pet business or if you just want to do it about yourself, either describe yourself or get a (sober) friend to give you a few traits to use.

Some of the results for this that I’ve seen, are hilarious. Here’s what it came up with for mine..

Scotty’s Cartoons:

“Okaaaay, LISTEN. You see ‘Scotty’s Cartoons’ right here? This absolute genius? They don’t just, like, draw dogs. No, no, no. They capture their very ESSENCE. Like, if a dog had a soul (which they totally do, obviously), they just, like, scoop it up and slap it on paper. And it’s perfect.

Like, you ever look at a dog and think, “Wow, that little dude has a WHOLE personality”? Well, they put THAT on paper. Or, like, whatever they use. Magic paper. Dog soul paper. Whatever. They’re like… like a dog whisperer, but with a pen. A magic pen. A pen that understands DOG VIBES.

And—AND—it’s not just for dog lovers, okay? It’s for businesses too! You run a dog thing? A dog grooming, a dog bakery, a dog yoga—I dunno, people do weird stuff—THEY will make your brand look SO fun, people will STOP SCROLLING. Like, BOOM. Stop. Look. "Wow, I love this." You need that. You NEED that.

Basically, they’re like... if Picasso and a golden retriever had a baby and that baby grew up to make art that makes people feel something. And that something is JOY. Yeah, they’re that.”

At the time of doing it, I found it a bit of fun and was amused by it, but it got me thinking. So many of us find the marketing aspect of our businesses difficult, to blow our own trumpets and shout about what we do. For this reason, I think this tool is invaluable. Maybe not the drunk aspect, but there’s plenty in there that I can pull threads from to describe my business in new ways that I haven’t considered before. I may have to keep the “If Picasso and a golden retriever had a baby and that baby grew up to make art” line!

But this isn’t just for business. Maybe you’re about to go to a job interview and need a confidence boost? Or maybe you’re just feeling low and need a self esteem lift. The phrasing to ChatGPT can easily be adapted to any scenario, and it can really help us to view the same thing, in new, fresh and quirky ways.

I tried it again, but dropped the “drunk” part, and it almost brought a lump to my throat... that is, until I remembered it was basing the response on what I’d told it about my business! Oops!

But these things are true, they are just worded in ways that we wouldn’t dream of saying ourselves, and I think it’s an invaluable tool to work from with marketing. It provides a good starting point for getting us to think about our businesses in positive, vibrant ways.

On an opposite note, a friend told me that you can ask it to roast you instead of praise you. Maybe I might try that one when I’m feeling brave…!
